The Sokoto Journal of
Linguistics and Communication Studies (SOJOLICS) is a peer-reviewed,
multidisciplinary journal published by the Department of Linguistics, Faculty
of Arts, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS). It is rooted in the
Department’s rich history of linguistic scholarship, which began in 2001 as a
Linguistics Unit and became a full Department in 2022 following the
restructuring of Modern European Languages and Linguistics into three
independent departments.
SOJOLICS reflects the Department’s
mandate to advance research on the languages and communication practices of
Nigeria and Africa, while maintaining active engagement with global
scholarship. The journal provides a credible academic platform for scholars,
educators, and practitioners to publish original research articles, theoretical
papers, reviews, and field reports in linguistics, applied linguistics,
communication studies, translation studies, and related fields.
By encouraging works that address
African linguistic realities, from language documentation and preservation to
multilingualism, digital communication, and intercultural dialogue, SOJOLICS
positions itself as both a guardian of local knowledge and a participant in
international debates. All contributions undergo rigorous double-blind peer
review, and the journal operates on a diamond open access model, ensuring free
and unrestricted access to knowledge.
Frequency
SOJOLICS is published twice a year (June
and December). From time to time, the journal may release special issues
dedicated to emerging themes of national or international significance.
