Analysis Study on Arabic Poetry of Social Events in Offa

    Abstract:

    This study examines Arabic poetry composed for social occasions in Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria, highlighting its role in expressing local values, customs, and social interactions. Drawing on life experiences, Offa’s poets craft diverse poems recited at weddings, religious gatherings, and cultural celebrations, conveying emotions such as joy, sorrow, praise, and congratulations. The research analyzes thematic content, artistic styles, and expressive techniques, demonstrating the poetry’s function in documenting social events, preserving collective memory, and reinforcing communal bonds. Findings reveal that Offa’s poets integrate Arabic authenticity with local influences, producing a distinctive literary style that reflects the city’s cultural identity. The study emphasizes the significance of supporting this poetic tradition for its contribution to cultural preservation, education, and transmission of social values to future generations.
